ADULT FAITH FORMATION
Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA)
What is it?
The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults is the process that initiates new members into the Church. It is for those who:
Have never been baptized as Christians
Have been baptized in another Christian Community and are now interested in the Catholic faith
Were baptized in the Catholic Church but not fully initiated into the faith (have not received the Sacrament(s) of Eucharist and/or Confirmation)
The RCIA process at St. Joseph’s Church leads seekers to a:
- Deeper relationship with God
- Knowledge of the truths of the Catholic faith
- Practice of prayer
- Community of believers
-Celebration of the Sacraments of Initiation
What does it consist of?
Meeting with other inquirers to pray and share questions and concerns of faith
An opportunity to share life’s experiences and the time to reflect on them as well
Learning about the Tradition and history of the Catholic Church, while experiencing our beliefs and worship
Being connected to a community that worships together, seeks to serve others, and joins in fellowship
When are where does it take place?
The actual Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults takes place at the Easter Vigil, when new members of the Church are baptized and/or fully initiated through the reception of the Sacraments of Eucharist and Confirmation.
The process of ongoing formation takes place each week, primarily on Sunday mornings, with a team of lay persons, priests, deacons, and religious as catechists for all sessions. These weekly gatherings are held both at the Church and the West Campus Meeting room; they begin in September and culminate at Pentecost.
