St. Joseph Church—Parish Nurse Ministry

Parish Nurse Ministry

The St. Joseph Parish Nurse Program gives witness to the healing mission of Jesus to individuals, families and the community.  The mission of the Parish Nurse Program is rooted in the deep religious belief of the Catholic Church.  The Parish Nurse Program  believes in the holistic nature of health and believes that physical wellness is intimately connected with spiritual and emotional well being.  The Parish Nurse Program believes that faith communities are called to serve one another by providing access to a health ministry in their own parish.

Roles of Parish Nurse

Health Educator:  The Parish Nurse promotes an understanding of the relationship              between lifestyle, attitudes, faith, and well-being by offering educational programs or              information to the parishioners.

Health Counselor:  The Parish Nurse discusses health issues and problems with              parishioners. She also visits  parishioners who are homebound or in long term care              facilities.  Hospital visitation is currently done by the deacons and priests.

Referral Liaison:  The Parish Nurse acts as a liaison to other congregational              resources and community services.

Volunteer Coordinator:   The parish nurse recruits, coordinates, and resources              volunteers within the congregation.
