Information Re: New Cups

2 – 20 – 11

We have eight new, larger, gold-finished cups.  They are heavier than the silver cups.

PLEASE note information regarding the care & use of these cups.

Lead Responsibilities:

1)      Fill cups prior to Mass and set on tray with purificators.

2)      Check amount of hosts in tabernacle and prepare sufficient number of hosts in ciboria for Mass.  If necessary also place extra dishes for choir.

3)      Take ciboria and small wine cruet to Gift table in middle aisle.

4)      Proper Care of Cups after use:

a)      Consume whatever of the Precious Blood remains in the cup.

b)      Rinse with water and consume that water.

c)      The cups should then be dried gently with the purificator.  Leave them on the counter by the sacrarium.  Do NOT wash them in the sink in the back sacristy.  (this will be done by a sacristan on a regular basis)

d)      Note: 12:00 Lead after Mass place cups in cupboard.  Do not leave them on the counter shelf.

5)      Cups are NEVER to be completely immersed in water.  Water will seep into the base

and cause the metal to corrode.  It is     NOT NECESSARY for you to wash the cups with

      soap and warm water.

In handling the cups during distribution you will find that they “pass” well.

The larger size may make your “cleanse the rim” movements with the purificator go a bit differently.  You may wish to practice.

SERVER RESPONSIBILITIES:

1)      The server is to take the tray with cups out to the credence table (very carefully).

2)      S/he also places the following on the credence table:

·        Bowl & water pitcher

·         Small water cruet

·        Chalice

·        Extra dishes for EMs & any dish with hosts

3)      After Mass clear the credence table and bring items to sacristy.
