Bible Studies

Various bible studies and adult formation opportunities are made available throughout the year. This also includes speakers for different theological topics, book studies, and other faith development opportunities. Information can be obtained from the parish bulletin and parish office.

Parish Library

In the West Campus Hoffman Room, a small parish library has been established. There are books regarding health and bereavement, as well as writings about our Catholic faith, spirituality and other theological topics.

Engaged Couples Conference

The Engaged Couples Conference is part of they diocesan policy for pre-marriage instruction of any couple planning to get married at Saint Joseph Parish. Married couples share their experience and help facilitate the conference. One day sessions are held twice a year. Registration is required.

Order of Christian Initiation of Adults

Saint Joseph Parish uses the Order of Christian Initiation of Adults (OCIA) to receive new members into our faith. Participants learn about the Catholic faith, grown in their relationship with God, meet parish members, and receive the sacraments of initiation (Baptism, Confirmation and Eucharist). The process begins each year in September. A team of lay persons, priests and religious, acting as catechists, facilitate all sessions. Office of Youth Catechesis and Formation

Religious Education

This program is for children entering 1st-8th grade but not attending Catholic school. Children are taught the rich traditions of the faith, including age appropriate study of Scripture, morality, sacraments, prayer and Catholic Social Teaching. We offer a choice of fall and summer sessions. We are always looking for good catechists to teach. Please email Janaye Ashman at jashman@stjoesylvania.org if you have any questions.

Children's Liturgy of the Word

Children's liturgy of the Word is for children in grades 1-4. This takes place during the 10am Mass. Children are invited to move into the Holy Family Chapel for the Liturgy of the Word to hear and study the readings at an age appropriate level. Adult facilitators are needed for this ministry. Youth Group

The Saint Joseph Parish Youth Group is open to all students in grades 6-12. Programming includes social, service and faith formation events. Keep an eye on the bulletin for upcoming events!

Children's Sacramental Prepation

Saint Joseph prepares children in grades two and eight for the sacraments of Reconciliation and Eucharist and Confirmation, respectively. Sunday School

The Sunday Preschool program is for children ages 3-5. It is their first opportunity to learn about our faith in a group setting. Classes are held during the 10am Sunday morning Mass. The program runs from late September through April. Volunteers are needed to teach the classes. Vacation Bible School

Saint Joseph Parish strives to run a summer vacation Bible school usually in July. It is held for one week in the mornings based on volunteer availability.
