Religious Education
Welcome to Saint Joseph Parish Faith Formation, for all parishioners from 1st to 8th grade! To assist parents in the sharing of faith with their children, we offer either Fall or Summer Faith Formation on a yearly basis for students not enrolled at Saint Joseph Parish School or another Catholic school. Registration for Faith Formation can be found below for students in 1st, 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th, and 7th grade.
For parents of parish Faith Formation or parish school students anticipating First Reconciliation and First Communion in 2nd grade or Confirmation in 8th grade, kindly register your child for the appropriate sacrament at one of the links below. Please note that there are separate registration links for parish Faith Formation students and parish school students.
If your child did not receive their sacraments on a traditional timeline, but desires to celebrate their Baptism, First Reconciliation, First Communion, or Confirmation, contact Janaye Ashman in the parish office at jashman@stjoesylvania.org or (419) 885-5791.

First Reconciliation & First Holy Communion Preparation
Through First Reconciliation and First Communion Formation, parishioners in 2nd grade at Saint Joseph Parish School or in our parish Faith Formation program explore these sacraments and deepen their relationship with God. They also participate in a sacrament retreat and create their very own First Communion banner! An informational First Communion Kickoff meeting is held at the beginning of the academic year, as well as a parent session on each sacrament. For a full list of sacrament formation components and dates, see the First Communion Handbook.

Confirmation Discernment
Through Confirmation Discernment, parishioners in 8th grade at Saint Joseph Parish School, at a local Catholic Academy, or in our parish Faith Formation program explore this sacrament and deepen their relationship with God. They also participate in community and parish outreach through service opportunities, experience a Confirmation retreat, and discuss this Sacrament one-on-one with a parish staff member! A Confirmation Kickoff meeting is held at the beginning of the academic year for parents and Confirmation candidates. For a full list of sacrament components and dates, see the Confirmation Handbook.
VIRTUS Training
For the protection of our beloved children, all volunteers for any youth program (this includes catechist, CYO coaches, Liturgy of the Word volunteers, etc.), must be VIRTUS trained. Please click the link to the right for more information.
